Why I Stopped Buying the Cheapest Hoodie

Why I Stopped Buying the Cheapest Hoodie

Can I confess something?
I used to think I was saving money by buying the cheapest hoodie I could find.

You know the ones. They look great when they're new, they're on offer and you

think, "Bargain!"

A few months later, they're not looking quite so great.

The cuffs have gone baggy.

The lining isn't as soft.

Tiny bobbles have appeared and the hood won't stay up.Without even realising it, you've stopped reaching for it.

It becomes the dog-walking hoodie.

Then the decorating hoodie.

Then the one you throw on to put the bins out.

Sound familiar?

It made me realise something.

The cheapest hoodie isn't always the cheapest hoodie.

Because if you're replacing it every few months, was it ever really a bargain?

That's why I've become a bit obsessed with quality.

Not because I think we all need expensive wardrobes.

Quite the opposite.

I'd rather have five pieces I absolutely love than fifteen that never quite feel right.

Life's busy enough without replacing your favourite hoodie every few months

because it just hasn't lasted.

These days, before I buy anything, I ask myself one question:

"Will I still be reaching for this this time next year?"

If the answer's yes, I know it's probably coming home with me.
